South Korea requested an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk-yeol

The Joint Investigation Team has requested the arrest of ousted South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol over his decision to briefly impose martial law on December 3. About this informs Reuters.

Yun is suspected of inciting rebellion. This arrest request was an unprecedented case in the country’s history when such measures are applied to a sitting head of state. The final decision on whether to issue an arrest warrant must be made by a court in Seoul.

Yoon previously ignored several summonses for questioning from the police and the Anti-Corruption Bureau for senior officials who are jointly investigating the incident. His lawyer said the anti-corruption agency had no jurisdiction to investigate cases related to the mutiny.

Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court is considering the issue of Yun’s final removal from office, the next hearing is scheduled for January 3. It will be recalled that on December 3, the President of South Korea, Yoon Seok-yeol, declared martial law in the country, but six hours later, the parliament and the government canceled this decision.
