Starlink and Kyivstar signed an agreement on the use of satellite communications on the territory of Ukraine

Ukrainian telecommunications operator “Kyivstar” has signed an agreement with Starlink, a division of SpaceX, to launch the innovative Direct to Cell satellite communication technology. About this reported “Kyivstar” press service.
This cooperation will allow Ukraine to become one of the first countries to have access to the new Starlink service, which will significantly increase the reliability and stability of the telecommunications infrastructure. Kyivstar is expected to start providing Direct to Cell services at the end of 2025. Initially, the service will include SMS and OTT messaging, and later users will be able to use voice and mobile data.
General Director of VEON Group, the parent company of Kyivstar, Kaan Terzioglu emphasized that the operator is actively expanding the coverage of 4G communication even in the most remote regions, while introducing advanced technologies to improve telecommunication services.
“This partnership once again proves our high commitment to Ukraine, and will also allow to significantly increase the sustainability of our services thanks to satellite technologies. We are happy to start cooperation with Starlink to make Ukraine one of the world leaders in the implementation of Direct to Cell satellite communication.” – he noted.
Starlink satellites equipped with Direct to Cell technology have advanced eNodeB modems that work like cell towers in space. They integrate into the existing network like roaming partners, providing communication even in the most remote places.
