Studies have revealed that artificial intelligence is capable of manipulating humans

The popularity of generative AI, chatbots and anthropomorphic assistants is growing rapidly, opening opportunities for manipulation through the use of behavioral and psychological data obtained in the process of interaction with users. About this informs published by Techsplore.

Researchers at the University of Cambridge are warning of the formation of a new market where artificial intelligence analyzes and predicts human decisions, selling this data to companies for commercial use.

Modern AI tools are able to predict user actions, such as purchases, political preferences or personal plans. Through personalized communication, they can influence decision-making by instilling trust. Major companies, including OpenAI, Meta, Nvidia, and Apple, are already actively working on developing platforms for analyzing and predicting human intent.

Scientists emphasize the potential risks of lack of regulation of such technologies. The so-called “intent economy” built on the use of AI can negatively affect democracy, free speech and market competition, favoring companies that monetize human aspirations and decisions. This is seen as a continuation of the attention economy, but with deeper societal implications.

Examples of this development include Apple’s App Intents platform, which predicts user actions, and Meta and OpenAI’s research on integrating AI to analyze desires and intentions. In this regard, scientists emphasize the importance of increasing public awareness and the need to create clear ethical standards to avoid possible manipulation and abuse.

Although the use of these technologies has positive aspects, ethical implementation requires open discussion and public awareness of potential risks.
