The loss of a father or mother, who gave their life for the defense of the country, forces small citizens to face extremely difficult life circumstances. A child deprived of a native breadwinner faces not only a deep personal tragedy, but also the need to find ways to ensure his future in conditions of limited resources. The legislation establishes a set of measures aimed at helping such children, providing them with financial stability, opportunities for quality education and access to social services. The purpose of these activities is to create real conditions for overcoming life’s difficulties and providing opportunities for development, regardless of the difficult experience of loss.
Financial assistance and survivor’s pension
Children of deceased servicemen are granted a survivor’s pension. Payments are made for children up to 18 years of age, as well as for full-time students in schools, vocational schools or higher education institutions up to 23 years of age.
For orphans, the pension is extended up to the age of 23, regardless of their educational status. The amount of assistance is formed in the form of a certain percentage of the monetary support of the deceased father or mother – from 30% to 70%, which takes into account the circumstances of the breadwinner’s death.
Educational support
Benefits in the field of education are also part of the guarantees. Children of fallen servicemen are given the opportunity to enter state and municipal higher education institutions without competition.
They also have the right to extra-ordinary enrollment in kindergartens. When entering higher education institutions, children can count on full payment of tuition by state or regional order, and in other cases – on partial compensation of costs through soft loans.
In addition, social scholarships are provided, which contribute to the financial support of students.
Additional benefits and social assistance
To facilitate adaptation to new conditions, children receive free textbooks from the library fund, as well as free Internet access in educational institutions.
Full-time students are provided with discounted or free accommodation in dormitories. In addition, free psychological assistance is organized for children who have experienced the loss of a relative, which helps them cope with the emotional consequences of the tragedy.
Due to the system of pension payments, educational benefits and social support, the children of fallen servicemen have the opportunity to receive the necessary assistance to continue their studies and ensure a minimum level of financial support. These measures are aimed at alleviating the difficulties associated with the loss of a breadwinner and helping young people to adapt to new living conditions.
