Prime Minister Yulia Svyridenko reported, which reached an agreement with the candidate for the post of director of the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB) Oleksandr Tsyvinsky about passing a polygraph before his appointment.

“In the morning, we had a good talk with Oleksandr Tsyvinsky, the candidate for the post of director of the Bureau of Economic Security. Thank you for the constructive approach. The competition commission made a decision, and the government received the results of additional inspections. We are all interested in the BEB becoming an effective institution and having real trust – the trust of business and the entire Ukrainian society.”Svyridenko said.

According to her, she and Tsyvinskyi agreed on steps to remove all questions and doubts in a civilized way, in particular, they agreed on his passing a polygraph.

“This is guaranteed to rid the situation of any manipulations and allows us to move on. I expect that next week we will be able to make an appropriate decision that will allow us to update the work of the State Security Service and will be a significant contribution to the positive reset of relations between the state and business.” – added the head of the government.

Oleksandr Tsyvinsky, in turn, confirmed the content of the conversation:

“We agreed to act openly and clearly to remove all questions and move forward.”

It will be recalled that on June 25, the Selection Commission for the position of the director of the BEB recommended the candidacy of Tsyvinskyi to the government. Three foreign members of the commission voted for him, while Ukrainian representatives supported other candidates — Mykhailo Burtovoy and Oleg Borysenko.

On July 7, the Cabinet of Ministers, having a ten-day deadline to make a decision, considered the submission, but in connection with the SBU letter, asked the commission to resubmit no more than two candidates that would meet all the established requirements, including security criteria. Newly appointed Prime Minister Yulia Svyridenko supported this approach and called it legal.

On July 23, the Commission again submitted Tsyvinskyi’s candidacy to the government for consideration. Subsequently, in response to Tsyvinskyi’s request, the SBU officially confirmed that it had no reason to object to his appointment to the post of BEB director.
