Telegram has more than 1 billion active monthly users

Telegram now has over 1 billion monthly active users, up 50 million from July 2024. About this reported the founder of the messenger Pavel Durov.

According to the number of users, Telegram has become the second most popular messenger in the world, if we do not take into account the Chinese WeChat. At the same time, the leadership is maintained by WhatsApp with approximately 3 billion users.

“Ahead of us is WhatsApp, a cheap, worse imitation of Telegram. For years, they tried desperately to copy our innovations, while burning billions on lobbying and PR campaigns to stop us. They failed. Telegram grew, became profitable and – unlike our competitors – remained independent.” Durov noted.

Durov noted that activity in the messenger is increasing: on average, users open Telegram 21 times a day and spend 41 minutes in it. Telegram generated $547 million in revenue in 2024, turning profitable last December for the first time in three years of monetization. The total revenue of the messenger in 2024 exceeded 1 billion dollars.
