The AMCU found signs of monopoly in BlaBlaCar

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine found signs of a monopoly position in the activities of “I-TRAVELS” LLC, which manages the BlaBlaCar platform for shared car trips. About this informs press office of the regulator.

AMCU provided the company with recommendations to eliminate actions that may indicate a violation of legislation in the field of economic competition. The committee also examined the procedure for setting, paying and returning the service fee for using the platform. It is noted that the company did not provide clear explanations regarding the mechanism of formation of this fee.

The regulator found that in the same situations, when a passenger cancels a trip reservation through no fault of the driver, the service fee is refunded to one passenger, but not to another, and such decisions are made at the discretion of the company. At the same time, users do not receive full information about the conditions for the return of the fee at the time of receiving the service.

AMCU obliged “I-TRAVELS” LLC to consider the recommendations and stop relevant actions within two months. If the company does not comply with these requirements, the Committee will initiate proceedings for violation of the legislation on the protection of economic competition.
