The Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft law on expanding the powers of the SBU in the field of legislation

It was approved at the Government meeting bill, developed by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, which amends several legislative acts and provides the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) with new powers to develop and submit regulatory acts for review. This draft of the Law “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine Regarding the Improvement of the Procedure for the Preparation of Draft Regulatory Acts” provides for the provision of the Security Service of Ukraine the opportunity to submit draft regulatory acts for consideration by the President of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine within their competence.
The draft law provides for amendments to the Law “On the Security Service of Ukraine” that expand its capabilities in the process of legislative initiative. In addition, the amendments to the Law “On the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine” include the Security Service of Ukraine in the list of entities that have the right to initiate the preparation and introduction of regulatory acts for consideration by the Government.
Currently, the Security Service of Ukraine does not have the authority to develop and submit normative legal acts for consideration by the President, nor is it an entity authorized to introduce draft acts of the Government. According to the current legislation, such initiatives can be submitted only by certain entities, which do not include the SBU.
Adoption of this draft law aims to increase the efficiency and speed of legal settlement of issues related to the activities of the SBU, especially in the conditions of martial law.
