The course “Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy” will become mandatory in Ukrainian schools

Quality education for Ukrainian children is one of the most important issues today, especially in wartime conditions. It not only provides knowledge, but also forms skills that allow young people to build a future even in the most difficult circumstances. Education should become a tool to support children growing up in the realities of war, giving them the opportunity to get the necessary resources to adapt to the modern world. Ensuring access to quality education, even in difficult conditions, is an integral part of the struggle for the country’s future. In addition to basic knowledge, today’s children need skills that will allow them to navigate the economic uncertainty that often results from war.
Introduction to the course “Entrepreneurship and financial literacy”
Starting from 2025, students of grades 8-9 will be required to study the course “Entrepreneurship and financial literacy”, which has already passed the pilot implementation stage in 2024. As reported Deposit Guarantee Fund of Individuals, this course will become part of the compulsory curriculum in schools of general secondary education.
This initiative was the result of the joint work of the Deposit Guarantee Fund of individuals, scientists and teachers from all over Ukraine. In 2024, in accordance with the previously approved Model Curriculum, pilot teaching of the course for eighth-graders began. For this, the team of authors together with the Ukrainian Educational Publishing Center “Orion” created pilot educational materials for the course “Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy” for 8th grade students. Currently, these materials are being supplemented and improved in order to develop a complete educational and methodological kit.
To ensure high-quality teaching of the course, an educational and methodological kit was created, including a textbook, a workbook, a manual for teachers, electronic applications and presentations for interactive learning. All these materials are aimed at providing children with the knowledge necessary to understand financial systems, budget planning and make informed decisions.
96 teachers have already been trained for the implementation of the new course, who will teach students the basics of financial literacy. They underwent specialized training, which included modern teaching methods, working with interactive platforms and using the latest technologies in the educational process. The course aims to give young people tools that will help them navigate the world of finance, avoid debt traps and even implement their own business ideas. This is especially important for Ukraine, where many families face economic difficulties, and financial literacy becomes a key factor for survival and development.
Why is the new course being introduced?
The introduction of the course “Entrepreneurship and financial literacy” is a timely response to the demands of modern society. In a world where financial stability is one of the defining factors of success, learning how to manage finances becomes a necessity. Children who receive this knowledge will be able to better adapt to the realities of adult life, make informed economic decisions and even contribute to the development of the country’s economy. The war only emphasized the importance of such skills, because the ability to navigate the financial world allows you to provide for yourself and your loved ones even in the most difficult circumstances.
This innovation is part of a broader education reform aimed at preparing a new generation of Ukrainians for the challenges of modern times. Providing quality education that meets the needs of the times is an investment in the future. The course “Entrepreneurship and financial literacy” will become an important tool for the formation of a financially educated society. This generation, despite all the difficulties, is able not only to adapt to the modern world, but also to create its new rules. The successful future of the country depends on education that not only meets the requirements of the time, but also anticipates them.
