A plan is being developed for the return of children’s institutions that were evacuated abroad

A meeting of the Coordination Staff on Protection of Children’s Rights in Martial Law was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk. The meeting discussed the return of children who were evacuated to institutions outside Ukraine due to Russian aggression. About this reported Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine. In particular, the notification refers to the preparation of a corresponding plan.

It will be developed by a working group of 35 people on behalf of the Vice-Prime Minister. These are representatives from central executive bodies, regional military administrations, public and international organizations, etc.

Iryna Vereshchuk emphasized the importance of developing an effective mechanism for the return of children. She noted that specific and detailed solutions must be developed for each host country and each region from which they left, so that our children can successfully return to the Motherland.

The task of the working group includes:

  1. Assessment of the condition of children in host countries. Collection of data on living conditions, education and medical care of children staying abroad.
  2. Cooperation with international organizations. Establishing contacts with international partners to ensure safe and organized return of children. Special attention will be paid to cooperation with such organizations as the UN, UNICEF and the Red Cross.
  3. Legal support. Development of legal mechanisms that will ensure the legal and safe return of children to Ukraine. This includes the adaptation of international treaties and agreements, as well as the development of new legal norms, if necessary.
  4. Logistics planning. Organization of transportation of children and accompanying staff. Consideration of all possible risks and development of alternative routes in case of complications.
  5. Psychological support. Provision of psychological assistance both during the return and after arrival in the Motherland. Children who have survived evacuation and stay abroad may need specialized psychological support to adapt to new conditions.
  6. Information campaign. Preparation of informational materials for parents, guardians and children regarding the return process, including instructions, contacts of responsible persons and recommendations for preparing for the move.

“It is our joint task to ensure a safe and comfortable return of our children home.” she said.

In addition, it was noted that an important aspect is the coordination of actions between different levels of government. The regional military administrations should work closely with the central executive authorities to ensure the effective implementation of the return plan.

Concluding the meeting, Iryna Vereshchuk emphasized the need for quick and coordinated execution of all tasks. She emphasized that children are our future, and their return to Ukraine is a priority task for all authorities and public organizations.
