The European Parliament demands that Hungary be deprived of its right of veto in the EU due to Orban’s visits to the Russian Federation and China
The authors of the appeal pointed out that Budapest's presidency has already caused serious damage to the EU

63 members of the European Parliament demand to deprive Hungary of the right to vote in the Council of the EU because of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s recent trips to Russia and China. This is reported by Politico, referring to sheet MEPs.
In their appeal to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metzola, the deputies call for everything possible to suspend Hungary’s right to vote in the Council of the EU, in accordance with the procedure provided for in Article 7 of the EU Treaty, which applies to countries, that violate the values of the European Union.
The letter notes that Hungary’s presidency of the EU Council has only just begun, and Prime Minister Orbán “has already caused significant damage by using and abusing the presidency of the EU Council.” In particular, the deputies draw attention to Orbán’s diplomatic visits to Russia and China, during which he “deliberately distorted his powers” and left the impression that he was acting on behalf of the entire EU, even though he did not have such powers.
“This is clearly evidenced by the fact that several EU leaders, diplomats, EU officials and even EU High Representative Josep Borrell felt the need to publicly emphasize that these trips took place exclusively within the framework of bilateral relations. Such behavior is usurpation of powerand”, says the letter.
The MPs also point out that Orbán is actively promoting a political agenda that contradicts the EU’s general positions, which raises serious concerns about Hungary’s future cooperation within the European Union.
