The French Parliament adopted a resolution on the seizure of Russian assets

The National Assembly of France adopted a resolution on strengthening support for Ukraine and the seizure of frozen Russian assets. About this informs Le Figaro.

The document was adopted by 288 votes after lively discussions. The resolution was supported by deputies from President Emmanuel Macron’s Renaissance party, the Socialists, the Greens, the center-right Republicans, and Horizons. Representatives of the far-left “Unconquered France” and the communists spoke against it, while the far-right “National Association” abstained.

Although the resolution is symbolic, supporters hope it will sway the government, which is currently opposed to seizing Russian assets. The very appearance of this issue on the agenda is already a characteristic sign.

It is important that the document also contains a call to EU countries to stop importing Russian gas, and a separate amendment to the resolution emphasizes the need to form an “independent European defense.” France and Germany, which previously opposed the full confiscation of Russian assets, are already discussing possible ways of using them with Great Britain and other partners.
