The government supported the appointment of increased scholarships in honor of the fallen defenders

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the draft of the Presidential Decree, which provides for the introduction of increased academic scholarships for cadets, trainees and adjuncts of military educational institutions – in honor of the defenders of Ukraine who died in the struggle for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state. About this informs press service of the Ministry of Defense.

The document is of a framework nature and creates legal foundations for the further development of the mechanism for awarding such scholarships in the name of fallen Heroes in the military education system. According to the concept proposed by the Ministry of Defense, the specific list and number of named scholarships will be determined by a separate decision of the government based on the submission of the Ministry of Defense.

The project provides for the cancellation of Presidential Decree No. 209 dated February 11, 2000, which established scholarships named after the heroes of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. The cancellation is related to the effect of the law “On Condemnation and Prohibition of Propaganda of Russian Imperial Policy in Ukraine and Decolonization of Toponymy.”

Currently, there are 28 scholarships named after heroes of the Second World War in higher military educational institutions and units of higher education. The amount of payments for civilian youth cadets is double the amount of financial support, and for contract cadets, trainees and adjuncts – an increase in the amount of 100% of the official salary.
