The issue of supplying Ukraine with TAURUS missiles may be put to a vote in Germany

The Free Democratic Party (FDP) plans to initiate a vote on the transfer of TAURUS missiles to Ukraine even before possible early elections in Germany. About this said in an interview with the newspaper Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung, the head of the liberal faction in the parliament, Christian Dürr. He believes that this proposal has a chance of success thanks to the support of other opposition parties – the conservative CDU/CSU bloc and the Greens.
The other day, the General Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party Bijan Jir-Sarai commented that the collapse of the government coalition in Germany was caused not so much by the opposition due to the allocation of an additional 3 billion euros to Ukraine in the 2025 budget. In his opinion, such an amount could be found by saving on other expenses. However, Chancellor Scholz insisted on additional loans, even if this would require removing the state debt limit enshrined in the country’s basic law.
Jir-Sarai also emphasized that now Ukraine needs not only additional funds, but also necessary weapons, which Kyiv has been demanding from Berlin for a long time, in particular TAURUS cruise missiles. However, Chancellor Scholz has not yet agreed to provide them.
