The Ministry of Health has expanded the list of dosages of cannabis-based medicines that can be manufactured in pharmacies

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has expanded the list of dosages of medicinal products that can be manufactured in a pharmacy from the plant substance of cannabis. Appropriate changes approved by order of the Ministry of Health No. 1134.

The purpose of the update is to increase the options for prescribing cannabis-based drugs, in particular in the form of combined forms, to increase the availability of the necessary treatment for patients with medical indications. The updated list is already available in the electronic health care system (EHS). The list includes 14 forms of medicines based on tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), as well as two combined forms combining THC and cannabidiol (CBD).

We will remind you that on February 16, 2024, Law of Ukraine No. 3528-IX “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the State Regulation of the Traffic of Cannabis Plants” was adopted. According to it, the prescription and dispensing of medicinal products based on medical cannabis is carried out exclusively through the electronic health care system and on the basis of an e-prescription.

The function of writing such prescriptions became available to doctors and pharmacists in the ESOZ from October 1, 2024. The e-prescription is issued within the framework of the program “Extemporaneous medicinal products made from the plant substance of cannabis” and is available only to patients with indications determined by the Ministry of Health. Medicines are dispensed at the patient’s expense. The legislation does not provide for the use of paper prescription forms for such extemporaneous medicines.
