In Ukraine, it is impractical to ban the work of the Telegram messenger, founded by Russians, since it is the main source of information for citizens. About this stated Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Disinformation Countermeasures Center at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
According to him, from the point of view of information consumption, Telegram remains the key platform for receiving news among Ukrainians.
“It is important that pro-Ukrainian channels and content make up the majority, while Russian ones are gradually blocked,” – noted Kovalenko.
At the same time, he admitted that currently the Ukrainian authorities do not have a mechanism to block dangerous Telegram channels:
“This mechanism must be implemented so that Durov makes contact. Cooperation with France in this matter may have a certain effect.”
Commenting on the initiative to ban Telegram channels, Kovalenko emphasized:
“There is a threat from Telegram channels, because it is through them that the enemy recruits people to carry out sabotage against Ukraine, Ukrainians and the state. But if Telegram is banned, will Russia use something else? One hundred percent, what will happen. Special services always use any social network.”
