The oldest train manager in Ukraine is 98 years old

A 98-year-old woman from Ocheretiny (Donetsk region) became famous throughout Ukraine a month ago. The story of Lidia Stepanivna, who walked 10 kilometers on foot with pickaxes under fire to get out of the occupation, left no one indifferent. At the moment, the brave grandmother is safe and has a new (but pleasant) problem – she has become the head of the train.

“I survived that war and I am going through this war. I was left with nothing. But I left my Ukraine on my feet,” the grandmother told the policemen who met her on the way.

After Lidia Stepanivna’s story became public, she was visited by representatives of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”. It turned out that the woman worked as a conductor for almost half of her life (40 years). In order to pay tribute to the courageous grandmother, the transport company offered Ms. Lidia an honorary position – from now on she is the head of train 111/112 Kyiv — Avdiivka.

The route of this train ran through Ocheretyne – the conductor’s native village, to which the woman dreams of returning after the end of the war.

“Today, the Ukrzaliznytsia team presented Lydia Stepanivna with the certificate of honorary conductor of train 111/112 Kyiv — Avdiyivka, which historically went through her native Ocheretyn, to which she sincerely dreams of returning. Now only by train — following the ZSU!” – it says on the official page JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”.

The grandson of Ms. Lidia continues the railway dynasty. He works as a conductor of diplomatic flights of Ukrzaliznytsia.

During the visit, the shooting of Dmytro Komarov’s program took place, who wants to tell the story of an indomitable Ukrainian woman to the whole world.

“They came to Donetsk region together with Dmytro Komarov to tell the story of the iron grandmother to the world, and brought with them a year’s supply of railway tea, an exclusive coaster and a branded hoodie “Providnytsia”, – noted the railway workers.
