The Pentagon does not believe that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine

In the Pentagon, there are no signs that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. Such a statement did Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh.

Commenting on Vladimir Putin’s decision to update Russia’s nuclear doctrine, a representative of the US Department of Defense noted that it did not come as a surprise to them. At the same time, according to her, there are no indicators that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

“We were not surprised by the update of Russia’s nuclear doctrine. They have been signaling this for the past few weeks.”, — said Singh.

She added that this is just another irresponsible rhetoric from Russia that the United States has seen over the past two years.

“We will continue to monitor the situation, but there is currently no indication that Russia intends to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Nor do we see the need to make changes to our own nuclear strategy.”, — concluded the representative of the Pentagon.

It should be noted that the White House previously stated that the US was not surprised by the lowering of the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons by Russia and does not plan to adjust its nuclear strategy in response to this.

It is also worth recalling that on November 19, after the US authorized the use of long-range weapons to strike Russia, Vladimir Putin approved Russia’s updated nuclear doctrine. It provides that an attack on Russia by a non-nuclear state supported by a nuclear one will be considered a joint attack. In addition, an attack on one of the NATO members will be considered aggression against the entire alliance.
