The President of Ukraine posthumously awarded the Order of Freedom to journalist Viktoria Roshchina, who died in captivity

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy posthumously awarded the Order of Freedom to journalist Victoria Roshchyna, who died as a result of torture in Russian captivity in 2024. The relevant decree No. 569/2025 made public on the official website of the head of state.
“For civic courage, patriotism, selfless defense of the sovereignty and independence of the Ukrainian state, constitutional rights and human freedoms, I decree to award the Order of Freedom to Roschyna Viktoriya Volodymyrivna – human rights defender, TV journalist, military correspondent (posthumously).” — specified in the document.
Zelensky emphasized that Victoria was among those who were not afraid to tell the truth about the war — she worked on the front line and in the occupied territories, aware of the threat to her own life.
“In February of this year, her body with numerous traces of torture was returned to Ukraine. Since then, all appropriate examinations have been ongoing. Today we honor Victoria Roshchyna posthumously. She was awarded the Order of Freedom. For her unshakable belief that freedom overcomes everything. Honor and bright memory of Victoria Roshchyna”, – added the president.
The Order of Freedom is one of the highest state awards, with which Ukraine marks a personal contribution to the strengthening of its sovereignty, the development of democracy and the protection of human rights.
