The Prime Minister of Greenland opposed the visit of members of the Trump administration to the country

Prime Minister of Greenland Mute Egede opposes the visit of members of the Trump administration to the island. He believes that the planned visit is an attempt by Washington to increase pressure, informs The New York Times.
“What can a national security adviser do in Greenland? The only purpose is to demonstrate power over us.”, — Egede commented on the plans of US President National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright to visit Greenland at the end of the week.
According to the Greenlandic prime minister, Volz’s visit will “strengthen Americans’ faith in Trump’s mission and increase pressure” on Greenland. While on the island, Volz plans to visit an American military base.
In addition, Egede expressed his displeasure with the visit of US Second Lady Usha Vance, who is expected to arrive in Greenland on Thursday and return to the US on Saturday. “Now is not the time when the visit of a politician’s wife could be considered harmless,” he said.
The leader of the “Democrats” party, Jens Frederik Nielsen, who won the elections to the Greenlandic parliament, also criticized the US for the unfortunate timing of the visits. According to him, the fact that the Americans chose a moment when the country has not yet formed a government, “once again shows disrespect for the Greenlandic people.”
We will remind that on March 11, parliamentary elections were held in Greenland. Although the “Democrats” party won the most seats in the new parliament, it failed to win a majority in 16 seats and will begin coalition negotiations. Earlier, in an address to Congress, Donald Trump said that the United States has no intention of renouncing its territorial claims to Greenland. He emphasized that America is ready to accept the island into its composition, if its people show such a desire.
