The Prime Minister of Hungary announced an unprecedented risk of escalation of the war in Ukraine

After the meeting of the Defense Council, the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, announced the unprecedented risk of escalation of the war in Ukraine. As informs Telex, Orbán noted that the threat is growing and Hungary must use all its experience, tools and diplomatic resources to stay out of this conflict.

“Never before has the threat of an escalation of war been greater, and in the coming weeks and months Hungary will need all its knowledge, tools and diplomatic experience to ensure that we continue to stay out of war.”, – said the prime minister.

Orbán also emphasized that Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential elections could be a step towards peace or at least a ceasefire. However, for now, according to him, “pro-war forces” remain in power in the US, and the next two months may become the most dangerous.

In addition, Orbán called on the European Union to review sanctions against Russia in order to reduce energy costs, which, in his opinion, negatively affect the economy.

The meeting of the Defense Council of Hungary was held with the participation of key government officials, including the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister Antal Rogan, the Minister of Defense Kristof Shalai-Bobrovnicki, the Minister of the Interior Sandor Pinter, the political director of the Prime Minister Balazs Orbán and the Minister of Economy Marton Nagy.

Analysts have previously suggested that a Trump victory could be politically beneficial for Orbán but economically risky for Hungary due to a potential increase in inflation, a fall in the forint and reduced production due to possible tariffs on the European auto sector.
