The Swiss People’s Party called the Peace Summit “a farce and a disgrace”

The Swiss People’s Party (SVP) actively opposed the Peace Summit, calling it a “farce” and “a shame for our country.” The head of the SVP’s youth wing, Nils Fichter, warned of the possible consequences of the measure, expressing fears that Switzerland could be drawn into a world war due to increased international tensions.

It informs Reuters.

The debate in Switzerland intensified in the context of the war in Ukraine, particularly after Sweden and Finland, also former neutral countries, were forced to renounce their status. The Kremlin is using the events to draw attention to Switzerland, saying the country has become “openly hostile” because of its support for Western sanctions.

The conference will achieve nothing. All this is an absolute farce and a shame for our country,” – said the head of the youth wing of the SVP, Nils Fichter, in a comment to the Russian TV channel RT.

The Swiss authorities are now under pressure from both sides – domestic political forces that demand the preservation of neutrality and international pressures that question Switzerland’s ability to remain aloof from global conflicts.
