The terrible night of May 24-25 took the lives of Ukrainian children in the Zhytomyr region

The terrible night from May 24 to 25 became for Ukraine another one of those that leave behind destroyed houses, lists of wounded, black ribbons next to photos and several children’s names that will no longer be heard aloud. During the large-scale combined shelling, the Russian army attacked a number of regions using various types of missiles and drones. There were explosions in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv Oblast, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Ternopil Oblast, and Chernihiv Oblast. And in Zhytomyr Oblast, three children died there at night.
In the community of Zhytomyr district, a rocket hit a residential building. DSNS officially confirmed: children aged 8, 12 and 17 died. One of the bodies had to be removed from the rubble. Three different lives, three stories that were in full swing — elementary grades, the transition to high school, the last year before adulthood. Now all this has stopped.
In addition to the dead, ten more people were injured. Rescuers managed to save eight of them during emergency rescue operations. All victims were hospitalized. Several are in serious condition. The impact caused serious destruction: private residential buildings were damaged, part of the farm buildings were destroyed.
In Berdychiv district, as a result of separate shelling, two people were injured, including a child. A five-story residential building, several private buildings, and farm buildings were damaged. Emergency services, 45 rescuers and 10 pieces of equipment worked on the ground. Volunteers of the Red Cross also took part in eliminating the consequences of the shelling. People were given not only first aid, but also psychological support. Many were in a state of shock — after the loss of loved ones, after the emptiness that comes in the silence after an explosion.
In the Kyiv region, three people died as a result of the strikes. By data of the regional military administration, two bodies were discovered during the liquidation of a fire in Obukhiv district, one more person died in Buchan district. In the Brovarsky, Bilotserkivskyi, Buchanskyi, Obukhivskyi districts, the consequences of shelling were recorded. Ten people were injured: six in Bilotserkivskyi district (among them two children), two in Fastivskyi, two more in Buchanskyi.
Anyone looking for meaning in such deaths will find none. Neither military logic, nor strategic purpose, nor even cynical benefit. There is only one fact: in a country that has been living in a state of war for the fourth year, children continue to die and receive serious injuries.
