EU and the world

The United States has requested from Europe a list of weapons and military forces that can be provided to Ukraine

The United States has asked European countries to provide a detailed list of weapons, military equipment, peacekeeping forces and other security means that they are ready to hand over to Ukraine within the limits of possible guarantees for ending the war with Russia. About this informs Financial Times, citing sources who wished to remain anonymous.

According to these sources, the request was sent during the current week and is related to the desire of European leaders to join the negotiation process between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, which was announced on February 12. Washington is trying to get concrete offers from European partners to support Ukraine, including what military capabilities they are willing to provide.

This initiative by the US appeared on the eve of the European tour of Trump’s special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, who will start his trip from Brussels next week. In his statements, Kellogg noted that European countries would not take a direct part in negotiations to end the war, but their interests would be taken into account.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron plans to convene a meeting of European leaders on February 17 to discuss support for Ukraine. EU representatives seek to have more influence on the negotiation process initiated by Trump.

Final progress in the peace talks will depend on further contacts between Trump and Putin. Sources say that European countries are currently trying to determine their role in this process, although their actual participation remains uncertain.

It will be recalled that US President Donald Trump said that Washington is conducting “constructive negotiations” with Kyiv and Moscow regarding the end of the war. At the same time, he did not reveal any specific details of his plan, only saying that he wants to “put an end to absolute carnage.”

On February 13, Trump also announced that next week in Saudi Arabia there may be a meeting of representatives of the USA, Ukraine and Russia, dedicated to a possible end to the war.
