At US bases in Europe, the level of anxiety has increased due to threats from Russia

US military leaders raised the alert level at military bases in Europe in response to vague threats from the Kremlin about Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons on Russian territory. Officials have said there is no concrete intelligence about possible Russian attacks on US bases, but Moscow has made vague threats about Ukraine’s use of long-range missile weapons on its territory.
So far, no US bases have been targeted, but US officials said raising the alert level would help ensure the military would monitor the situation.
Throughout the war, US officials believed that President Vladimir Putin did not want to expand the war beyond Ukraine’s borders. But according to American officials, increased US and European aid to Ukraine has led to recent statements from Russia that have alarmed some American and European officials.
It will be recalled that Ukraine uses American missiles with a longer range, known as ATACMS, for deep strikes in the occupied Crimea. The United States has also said that Ukraine could use them for cross-border attacks on Russian military targets.
