The US Department of Education froze funding for Harvard University

The US Department of Education has announced a $2.2 billion freeze in public funding for Harvard University after the institution refused to comply with demands from the Trump administration. About this it is said in the press release of the US Department of Education.

“Joint Anti-Semitism Task Force Announces Freeze of $2.2B in Long-Term Grants and $60M in Long-Term Contracts for Harvard University”, – says the statement.

Last week, the White House sent Harvard a list of demands that called for strict government oversight and deep management reforms at the university. However, the institution rejected those demands on April 14, saying the Trump administration was violating the First Amendment to the US Constitution, overstepping its authority under the Civil Rights Act and encroaching on the autonomy of a private educational institution.

In response, the US Department of Education announced a funding freeze, stating that the recorded violations of the educational process were unacceptable.

“The disruption to the academic process that campuses have suffered in recent years is unacceptable. The oppression of Jewish students is unacceptable. It’s time for elite universities to take this issue seriously and commit to significant change if they want to continue to receive taxpayer support.”, – noted the US Ministry of Education.
