The US Supreme Court rejected the Trump administration’s request to freeze foreign aid

The US Supreme Court rejected the Donald Trump administration’s request to keep frozen billions of dollars allocated by Congress for foreign aid. About this informs CNN.

The Supreme Court, by a vote of 5 to 4, denied the Trump administration’s request to keep those funds frozen. At the same time, the court did not determine specific terms for their unblocking, which allows the White House to continue legal proceedings in lower instances.

The case was brought about by Trump’s decision to freeze the budget of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in January 2025, arguing that it was intended to cut costs and change the agency’s priorities.

Several nongovernmental organizations challenged the decision, arguing that the administration overstepped its authority by interfering with Congress’ control of the budget, a violation of federal law. The filings show that Trump’s team is seeking to cut approximately 90% of USAID’s approved foreign aid grants.
