The USA is preparing to announce the purchase of arms for Ukraine worth 6 billion dollars

The US plans to sign contracts for the supply of weapons and equipment for the Ukrainian army for a total of 6 billion dollars.

Details of the funding for the military aid, which is part of an overall $61 billion aid package for Ukraine, are expected to be announced today.

The assistance package will include:

  • Patriot air defense systems
  • Artillery ammunition
  • Drones
  • Means of combating drones
  • Air-to-air missiles for fighters.

According to Politico, the equipment will be delivered to Ukraine over several years, as the funds are allocated under the Ukraine Security Promotion Initiative. This program involves the conclusion of contracts with American defense companies for the production of new equipment, rather than supplies from US warehouses.

Recently, the United States has allocated more than 60 billion dollars in aid to Ukraine, of which 49.9 billion is intended for defense needs, 1.57 billion for economic aid, and 400 million for border protection and humanitarian demining.

On April 24, US President Joe Biden announced the first $1 billion aid package. The Pentagon promised to deliver aid as soon as possible.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba expressed hope that the US has spare Patriot systems that can be transferred to Ukraine. According to The Guardian, Greece and Spain are also considering the possibility of supplying Patriot to Ukraine. In addition, Patriot systems are in Poland and Romania. According to Kuleba, the eighth system can be provided to Ukraine by the United States
