Russian airstrikes on Kharkiv: dozens injured, including children

On September 15, around 3:17 p.m., the Russian Federation carried out several airstrikes on Kharkiv, which resulted in significant destruction and wounding of dozens of people. One of the blows hit a multi-story apartment building on Saltivka, causing a fire and the collapse of structures between the 9th and 12th floors. Mayor of Kharkiv Igor Terekhov reported that at least 12 houses in the district were damaged as a result of the attack.

Rescue operations are ongoing at the scene, as people may still be under the rubble. According to Oleg Synegubov, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, 41 people are currently known to be injured, including four children, the youngest of whom is only one year old. 12 victims were hospitalized, in particular, one woman and a 12-year-old boy are in serious condition. An operational headquarters is on site, where more than 30 claims of property damage have already been received.

During the evacuation, one of the residents refused to leave the apartment without his dog. The rescuers did not leave anyone to their own devices and evacuated both the man and his pet.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi reacted on this terrorist attack in his Telegram channel:

“Rescue operations are still ongoing in Kharkiv. A Russian aerial bomb hit the building. This is an ordinary multi-storey residential building. There was a fire, the floors collapsed. It is known about people under the rubble. As of now, 35 are injured, and among them – three children. They quickly arrived at the scene all services, rescuers, medics, utility services, and all those affected are being assisted.

In total, there were four aerial bombs in just one strike on Kharkiv Oblast. One around Kharkiv, around the house. The other three are in villages in the Kharkiv region. Today, the Russians dropped such bombs on Sumy Oblast, our Donetsk Oblast. In general, there are at least a hundred such airstrikes every day. 128 guided aerial bombs in one past day. And this terror can only be opposed by a systemic solution, and this is a long-range solution. To destroy the Russian military aircraft where it is based. This is an obvious, logical solution. We have already explained to all partners why Ukraine really needs a sufficient long-range.

And every such Russian strike, every manifestation of Russian terror, as today against Kharkiv, against our Sumy region, against our Donetsk region, all this proves that the long-range must be – and must be sufficient. We expect relevant decisions, first of all, from the United States of America, Britain, France, Germany, Italy – everyone who can help save lives with their determination.”

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed that at least 12 buildings were damaged. According to him, an invincibility point has been opened at Lyceum No. 161, where victims can receive first aid.

The head of the Kharkiv OVA Oleg Synegubov said that 41 people were injured, and rescuers continue to clear the rubble, as there may still be people under it.

Volodymyr Tymoshko, the head of the police of the Kharkiv Region, noted that the attack on the high-rise building was carried out by a KAB-250 aerial bomb with an UMPK module, which increases the destructive force of the impact.
