The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement Activities supported Zelensky’s bill on NABU and SAPO

The Verkhovna Rada’s Law Enforcement Committee supported presidential draft law No. 13533 aimed at strengthening the powers of NABU and SAP. The committee recommends adopting the document as a basis and in general without amendments already during the next session of the parliament on July 31, reported press service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Representatives of the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine took part in the meeting.
“The purpose of the draft law is to guarantee the strengthening of the institutional independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, as well as to ensure reliable protection of their activities from the influence and interference of Russia”, – says the statement of the Verkhovna Rada.
During the meeting of the committee, which was broadcast online, it became known that 19 of its members voted to support the draft law, among them MP Maksym Buzhanskyi, one of the authors of previously submitted amendments to Law No. 12414, which limited the powers of anti-corruption bodies.
Consideration of document No. 13533 in the parliament will be the first item on the agenda on July 31. At the same time, People’s Deputy Yulia Tymoshenko said that her “Batkivshchyna” faction, which previously almost fully supported the law limiting the independence of the SAP and NABU, will not vote for the presidential project.
