The Verkhovna Rada supported the presidential draft law on multiple citizenship

The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading the presidential draft law No. 11469 “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding Ensuring the Implementation of the Right to Acquire and Preserve Ukrainian Citizenship”, the Ministry of Internal Affairs was actively involved in its development.
About this reported Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko.
The document updates the legal norms governing the grounds, procedure for acquiring and terminating citizenship, and also takes into account the interests of the Ukrainian diaspora and citizens who were forced to leave Ukraine due to the war.
One of the key innovations is the institution of multiple citizenship, which will allow Ukrainians to obtain foreign citizenship without having to renounce Ukrainian citizenship.
The draft law also takes into account the interests of foreigners and stateless persons participating in the defense of Ukraine, as well as their family members. This decision is a recognition of the contribution of foreign citizens who help Ukraine resist the aggressor, demonstrating that the defense of our state goes beyond nationalities and borders.
The law provides for the possibility of integration of these people through obtaining Ukrainian citizenship without necessarily leaving their primary citizenship.
At the same time, the draft law contains an important limitation: multiple citizenship will be prohibited for persons who are citizens of an aggressor state or a country that does not recognize the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
