The White House is collecting ideas to increase the birth rate in the United States

The administration of US President Donald Trump is collecting ideas to stimulate the birth rate in the country. About this informs New York Times.

Among the proposals being discussed is the payment of a “baby bonus” of up to $5,000 to mothers after the birth of a child. The initiative comes amid calls from Trump allies, including billionaire Elon Musk and Vice President J.D. Vance, to increase the U.S. birthrate.

Other ideas floated include allocating 30% of Fulbright scholarships to those who are married or have children, and introducing educational programs for women to understand the menstrual cycle in order to increase the chances of pregnancy. So far, it has not been specified which of the ideas can be implemented, however, “advocates of the idea expressed confidence that fertility issues will become an important part of the agenda.”

Earlier, Donald Trump called for a new “baby boom” in the USA, calling himself the “Fertilization President”. In February, he signed a decree aimed at expanding access to in vitro fertilization.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the U.S. birth rate has been declining for several decades. After a short-lived increase in 2022 related to the post-Covid period, the rate fell to a record low of 1.62 births per woman in 2023. For stable reproduction of the population, an indicator of 2.1 is necessary.
