There are 5 camps in Ukraine for holding Russian prisoners of war: Coordination Headquarters

Petro Yatsenko, spokesperson of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported, that there are currently five camps where Russian prisoners of war are held in Ukraine. According to him, Ukraine has a sufficient exchange fund to continue conducting exchanges.

As Yatsenko explained, the large-scale work that made it possible to carry out the already held exchanges and is preparing the next ones is the result of the activities of the Coordination Headquarters, which works on the instructions of the president.

“It should be understood that the work on preparing the exchanges, including those that have taken place and those that, I hope, will take place, became possible thanks to the fact that we, as the Coordination Headquarters, on the instructions of the President of Ukraine, conduct a very large amount of work. We collect information, we find information about our people who are in captivity and in captivity, if we are talking about civilians.” – he noted.

Yatsenko emphasized that individual exchanges could take place regardless of the negotiations in Istanbul, because some of them were already implemented at the beginning of the year.

“But thanks to these agreements, it was possible to really free a large number of people, and this process continues. All the bodies that are involved in the organization of the exchange process are working and will continue to work so that this does not happen. We have an exchange fund. Now a common question that our relatives ask us is: “Do you still have enough Russian prisoners to exchange them””, – emphasized Yatsenko.

He clarified that all prison camps function in accordance with international law:

“Under the Third Geneva Convention, they are being held there. And we have a sufficient exchange fund to continue those exchanges and bring our people back from those terrible conditions.”

We will remind you that the last exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia took place on July 4. It became the next stage in the implementation of the agreements reached in Istanbul. As a result of the exchange, it was possible to return Ukrainian defenders, in particular those who were in serious condition due to injuries or illnesses, as well as military personnel under the age of 25.
