They tried to illegally transport 4 kg of silver coins worth more than a million hryvnias through the Ustyluh checkpoint

Ukrainian customs officials are constantly seizing items that have cultural or historical value for Ukraine. This time, they tried to remove a collection of silver coins with a total weight of 4 kg from the territory of Ukraine, their value is 1 million 92 thousand hryvnias. So, the drivers of the Riga-Kyiv regular bus – a 44-year-old from Kyiv and a 41-year-old resident of the Poltava region – tried to transport silver, but the vigilance of customs officials prevented such an important loss. Boxes with coins were found among the personal belongings of Ukrainians in the luggage compartment of the bus.

It is about 72 silver coins that were minted in Cameroon, as well as in the Pacific nation of Niue.

Employees of the State Customs Service drew up administrative reports on citizens for violation of customs rules, and the goods were handed over for examination to assess the cultural value and market value. After a detailed examination, a final decision will be made on the fate of the drivers, as well as on possible fines that may be applied to them.

Thus, the customs officials reminded that any objects that may be cultural heritage are subject to mandatory declaration. This is prescribed in the Customs Code of Ukraine.

Since the men did not provide any documents for these coins, now according to Part 3 of Art. Violators of 471 of the Customs Code of Ukraine face the confiscation of these items and a fine. The final decision in this case will be made after the expert analysis of the coins is completed.
