Mobile app TikTok is preparing a new version of its app for US users ahead of its potential sale to investors. About this reported edition of The Information.
According to information, TikTok plans to launch the updated application in the American App Store on September 5. Users will have to download the new version separately to continue using the service. The current application will remain active until March of next year, but this period is subject to change.
Earlier this spring, a deal was discussed to spin off TikTok’s US operations into a separate US-based company, with a controlling stake going to US investors. But the talks were halted after China expressed its displeasure over the Trump administration’s high tariffs on Chinese goods, Reuters recalls.
It will be recalled that in June 2025, Donald Trump extended the deadline until September 17, by which the Chinese company ByteDance must give up the American assets of TikTok. Trump said he would begin talks with China on July 7 or 8 about a potential deal around TikTok. According to him, the US will probably have to get Beijing’s consent to finalize the agreements.
