Trump announces 90-day pause in trade war for 75 countries

Donald Trump stated, that more than 75 countries have approached the United States — including the Department of Commerce, the Department of the Treasury and the US Trade Representative (USTR) — to initiate negotiations on tariffs, currency issues and trade barriers. Since these states did not take any measures in response to the actions of the US, he announced a 90-day “pause” for them.
“I have authorized a 90-day pause, as well as a significant 10% reduction in reciprocal rates during that period, also effective immediately.” – said in the statement.
At the same time, Donald Trump announced an immediate increase in tariffs on Chinese products to the level of 125%, accusing China of “lack of respect” for global markets.
“In light of China’s contempt for global markets, I have decided to increase the tariffs that the United States of America levies on China to 125%, effective immediately.” – explained Trump.
He also expressed hope that China will understand: the era of unpunished “robbing” of the US and other countries is over.
We will remind that on April 9, China announced an increase in tariffs on imports of American goods to 84%, stressing that this step is aimed at protecting national economic interests in the context of worsening trade tensions. This decision was Beijing’s reaction to the recent introduction by the US president of 104% tariffs on Chinese products.
