Trump calls for strengthening Ukraine’s position in talks with Russia: US senator

US presidential candidate Donald Trump is seeking to strengthen Ukraine’s position in potential peace talks with Russia. This was stated by Republican Senator Marco Rubio in an interview with NBC News.
“I’m not on Russia’s side, but unfortunately, the reality is that the way for Ukraine to end this (war – ed.) is through a negotiated settlement. I want to, we want to, and I want to believe that Donald Trump wants Ukraine to have more leverage in these negotiations,’ Rubio said.
The senator also stressed that the administration of current President Joe Biden shares the view that the war between Russia and Ukraine should end through negotiations.
‘We hope that when the time comes, Ukraine will have more influence than Russia,’ Rubio added.
Zelenskyy and Trump meet
Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid an official visit to the United States, during which he met with presidential candidate Donald Trump. During the talks, Zelenskyy presented a plan for Ukraine’s victory in the war against Russia.
After the meeting, Trump said that Russia’s war against Ukraine must end, stressing the need for a ‘fair deal’ to achieve peace.
