“The agreement between Lebanon and Israel, which is being monitored by the United States, will continue in force until February 18, 2025”, – the White House said in a statement.
The statement came after Israel confirmed that its troops would remain in southern Lebanon beyond the end of the peace agreement’s deadline, which expired on Sunday.
Israel has not yet specified how long the military will stay in the region. According to the statements of the Israeli command, their goal is to remove Hezbollah’s weapons and destroy its military infrastructure.
The White House also announced that negotiations between the governments of the United States, Israel and Lebanon will soon begin regarding the return of Lebanese prisoners captured after October 7, 2023.
