Trump explained why he is not tightening sanctions against Russia

US President Donald Trump said that the strengthening of sanctions against Russia by the United States could harm the peace process between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. About this informs CNN.
“I think there’s a chance to do something. And if you do (impose sanctions), it could make things a lot worse. But there may come a time when that happens.” – explained Trump.
He expressed his belief in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s readiness to end the war:
“I think he’s had enough.”
According to Trump, otherwise he would not have had a conversation with him.
With regard to Ukraine, the US president noted that he will be able to assess its efforts to cease fire later:
“I would rather answer you in about two weeks, because I can’t say yes or no… I think Zelensky is a strong guy, he is not easy to deal with. But I think he wants to stop… But I would be better able to answer this question in two or four weeks.”
It will be recalled that the day before Trump announced that his conversation with Vladimir Putin went “very well”, and that Russia and Ukraine should “immediately” start negotiations on a ceasefire and ending the war. The US president added that he had informed Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the leaders of the Coalition of the Willing about the results of the negotiations.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who along with other European leaders participated in telephone talks with US President Donald Trump, said that Europe plans to increase sanctions pressure on Moscow.
