Trump extends TikTok in the US for another 75 days

US President Donald Trump passed the decision to extend the work of the TikTok application in the country for another 75 days, expressing hope for constructive cooperation with China.

Trump has given the Chinese company ByteDance an additional 75 days to sell TikTok’s US units, or the platform will be banned in the US. According to the president, the agreement needs to be finalized, so he signed a decree giving the application a temporary extension.

“We hope to continue to work in good faith with China, who I understand is not very happy with our mutual tariffs (necessary for fair and balanced trade between China and the US!). This proves that tariffs are the most powerful economic tool and very important to our national security!”, Trump said.

The US president also emphasized that the country does not want TikTok to “go dark” and added: “Looking forward to working with TikTok and China to close the deal.”

It will be recalled that in February 2024, a group of American lawmakers appealed to the US Department of Commerce with a proposal to add the company ByteDance, which owns TikTok, to the export control list in order to limit its access to American technologies.

On January 18, 2025, TikTok temporarily stopped working in the United States, but after Trump took office again, the application resumed operation – then a decree was signed to postpone the ban for another 75 days. At the end of March, Trump expressed confidence that an agreement to sell TikTok to an American investor would be concluded by Saturday, April 5.
