Trump proposes to introduce a $5 million “gold card” as a path to US citizenship

US President Donald Trump is proposing to replace the current visa program for foreign investors with a so-called “golden card” that can be purchased for $5 million as a path to US citizenship. About this informs Reuters.

Trump said he plans to replace the EB-5 visa program, which allows foreign investors to invest heavily in the US economy and obtain permanent resident status, with an alternative “golden card.” The EB-5 program provides green cards to foreigners who invest in American businesses.

“We’re going to sell the gold card. We’re going to price that card at about $5 million. It’s going to give you green card privileges, plus it’s going to be a path to (American) citizenship, and wealthy people are going to come into our country buying that card.” – explained Trump, noting that the details of the program will become known in two weeks.

It will be recalled that the EB-5 immigrant investor program was created by the US Congress in 1990 to “stimulate the US economy by creating jobs and attracting foreign investment.”
