Trump threatens BRICS countries with 100 percent tariffs if they abandon the dollar

Donald Trump, the newly elected president of the United States, has warned the BRICS countries about possible economic sanctions if they decide to abandon the use of the dollar in international trade. That’s what he’s about wrote on his social network Truth Social.
Trump has categorically opposed the idea of the BRICS countries creating their own currency or supporting any alternative that could replace the US dollar. He stressed that such steps would provoke a tough response from the United States, including the introduction of 100 percent tariffs on goods from these countries. In his opinion, it will significantly complicate access to the American market.
“We expect assurances from the BRICS countries that they will not support the creation of a new currency or any attempt to replace our mighty US dollar. If they ignore these demands, they will have to forget about trading with the best economy in the world.” – Trump said.
He also expressed his belief that the BRICS countries will not be able to displace the dollar from international trade.
“No country has a chance to replace the US dollar, and anyone who tries should be prepared to say goodbye to America.” he added.
We will remind, BRICS is an association of the largest developing economies. It includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and was later joined by Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates. Together, these countries make up more than 40% of the world’s population, and in recent years they have been actively discussing the possibility of creating a common currency to reduce dependence on the US dollar.
