UAH 30 billion will be allocated for the transformation of Ukraine’s coal regions

Approximately 30 billion hryvnias will be directed to the implementation of measures within the framework of the Program for the Fair Transformation of the Coal Regions of Ukraine. About this reported Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Ryabikin.
“The program adopted by the government today is calculated until 2030. It provides for quite serious financing – approximately 30 billion hryvnias. These will be funds from the state budget, local budgets and other sources, including international technical assistance.” Ryabikin explained.
He noted that one of the stages of the Program — Power4JustTransition — is currently being launched. 40 communities from Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Luhansk, Lviv, Vinnytsia and other regions will participate in the project. In total, the program is expected to reach about 2.2 million residents of these regions.
“Our German partners from GIZ agreed to our proposals and included in the program not only communities from regions where coal is mined, but also those where there is thermal generation using fossil fuels. Therefore, communities from, for example, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kharkiv, and Kyiv regions were added to the mining regions.” – explained the deputy minister.
As a reminder, on June 18, the government approved the Program for the Fair Transformation of the Coal Regions of Ukraine by 2030. It was the result of cooperation with German partners and involves supporting the local economy, developing decentralized and diversified energy sources, investing in human capital, and improving the environmental sustainability of communities.
