Ukraine agreed not to take into account previous US assistance in subsoil agreement

Ukraine and the United States agreed that the agreement on mineral resources will not take into account the assistance that the American side provided earlier. In particular, earlier US President Donald Trump demanded the return of these funds from Kyiv. About this reported Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
“An important meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant, at which a separate topic of conversation was the agreement between our countries. Legal positions are working on the document,” – the message says.
According to Shmyhal, legal teams are working on the document, and the process is showing good progress. The key principles of cooperation were determined.
“The main thing is that our red lines have been clearly defined, the agreement must comply with European obligations, and also not contradict the Constitution and legislation of Ukraine. It must be ratified by the parliament.”, – noted the Prime Minister.
Shmyhal also emphasized that the parties reached an important agreement: Ukraine will not have to return funds for American military aid.
“Agreements were reached that the document does not include assistance provided before its signing,” – he summarized.
It will be recalled that in February, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington has provided Kyiv with more than 300 billion dollars since the beginning of the full-scale war. Later, he repeatedly insisted that these funds should be returned. Such a condition was laid down in the subsoil agreement and became one of the main causes of disputes.
However, in fact, there was no aid in the amount of 300 billion dollars. On February 19, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, announced that the total cost of weapons used during a full-scale war is $320 billion. Of this amount, 120 billion dollars was provided by Ukraine independently, and another 200 billion dollars were provided jointly by the USA and the EU.
