The number of fines for violating the language law has tripled in Ukraine
This year, the number of appeals from citizens regarding violations of the language law has decreased. As of mid-October 2024, 216 protocols were drawn up in Ukraine, 64 fines were imposed, and 91 warnings were issued. Such a information provided by Opendatabot.
During the reporting period, 1,808 appeals regarding language legislation violations were recorded, which is 1.7 times less compared to the same period last year. This year, there are an average of 180 requests per month, compared to 300 per month last year.
Among the most frequent reasons for appeals are the lack of a Ukrainian version of websites (525 appeals, or 29%), service in Russian (288 appeals, or 16%) and violation of language requirements in advertising (247 appeals, or 14%).

The most complaints were registered in Kyiv (706 appeals). Odesa (326 appeals), Kharkiv (149 appeals) and Dnipropetrovsk regions (148 appeals) were also included in the regions with the largest number of violations.

Despite the decrease in the number of appeals, the number of sanctions has increased. For the year 2024, 216 protocols have already been drawn up, which is 1.7 times more than for the entire year 2023, when there were only 128 of them.
