Ukraine and Germany resume piggyback transportation

Starting from July 1, it will be renewed containerized transportation between the Mostyska terminal in Ukraine and the Forst terminal in Germany. It is about the transportation of trucks using railway platforms — an alternative to traditional road transportation.

This route was already used in 2023-2024, in particular during the border blockade by Polish farmers. Then it was actively used as an alternative logistics channel.

The limit for trailers will be 22 tons, while in Germany – up to 24 tons. The approximate duration of one-way delivery, taking into account the border crossing, will be about 20 hours. The companies N’UNIT (“Mostyska” terminal), LION group (“Forst” terminal) and GOL (Ukraine) participate in the implementation of the project.

“This is a high-quality alternative to road transportation. You can draw a parallel here: containers with imports to Kyiv can be transported through Romania, Odessa, Chornomorsk, or Poland. You can also transport goods from the south, center, and west of Germany simply by truck or trailer train. There are pros and cons, which you can objectively evaluate and decide what will be more profitable for your situation.” – explained the commercial director of the GOL company Volodymyr Guz.

The Ukrainian industrial company “Interpipe” used this route to deliver products bypassing the blocked Ukrainian-Polish border. The cargo left the Dnipro by a truck that stopped at the railway platform in Mostyska. The train delivered the platform to the city of Forst in Germany, from where the new tractor delivered the cargo to the final recipient.
