Ukraine and the Russian Federation began exchanging parcels and letters for prisoners of war

The Ukrainian and Russian sides have started transferring letters from relatives and parcels provided by the International Committee of the Red Cross to prisoners of war. About this reported Human Rights Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Lubinets.
“This is happening according to prearranged lists of 1,500 people, which our office exchanged with the office of the Russian Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation at the beginning of March.” – the message says.
The Ombudsman assured that all letters that were sent by the families of Ukrainian citizens in accordance with the agreement between the parties, will definitely be delivered to the addressees.
“This was agreed upon by the parties in order to continue the humanitarian initiative launched earlier. I would like to remind you that it is aimed at ensuring that every detained person can report himself after being captured.”, he emphasized.
According to Lubinets, further continuation of the exchange of letters from prisoners of war was discussed with the Russian side as a way of informing families about their situation, as well as measures aimed at returning prisoners and solving humanitarian issues.
