Ukraine does not allow Russia to participate in the Water Convention Bureau: Environment Ministry

At the 10th meeting of the parties to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Water Resources, Ukraine successfully blocked Russia’s participation in the Bureau of the Water Convention. About this reported Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources in Telegram.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian delegation informed the participants about the consequences of Russian aggression for the environment, in particular, the environmental disasters caused by the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP, as well as the pollution of rivers such as the Seim. Delegates urged countries to join forces to hold Russia accountable for numerous environmental crimes, including those involving water resources.

At the general session, the representative of the Ministry also presented the National Plan of Ukraine for cross-border cooperation and monitoring of water resources. First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection Olena Kramarenko noted that the voting decision approved the participation of a representative of the State Water Resources Agency of Ukraine in the Bureau of the Water Convention for the period 2025-2027.

This opens up new opportunities for Ukraine to actively participate in cross-border cooperation in the direction of conservation, purification and monitoring of water resources. And most importantly, we will continue to work to ensure that Russia is justly punished for crimes committed against the environment“, Kramarenko stressed.
