Ukraine strongly condemned the new missile tests carried out by North Korea, calling them a threat to regional and global security. About this informs press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
“Another provocation by Pyongyang is a direct threat to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the world. North Korea continues an open course of destabilization, a component of which is also the provision of military aid to the aggressor state of Russia in violation of international sanctions regimes.”, the statement says.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasizes that such actions of the DPRK contradict the norms of international law and create a significant threat of escalation of conflicts in the region. In this regard, Ukraine calls on the international community to increase sanctions pressure on Pyongyang, which, according to the agency, will help curb the development of North Korea’s missile programs and force it to abandon its aggressive policy.
The diplomatic service of Ukraine also reported that during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, the country plans to call on the world community to strengthen the policy of containment of the DPRK.
On September 12, it became known about the launch of several short-range ballistic missiles by North Korea. According to the Associated Press, the missiles were launched from the capital of North Korea – Pyongyang – and flew approximately 360 kilometers, falling in the waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan.
These are the first such tests in the last two months. In response, Japan has taken steps to strengthen the protection of its ships and aircraft in the region.
