Ukraine is preparing a “swarm” of drones for autonomous work in a team

The Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Oleksandr Bornyakov, reported that drones have already completely liberated one of the villages in the east of Ukraine. Drones successfully attacked the positions of Russian troops, forcing them to retreat.

Details in a comment for The Times  shared Serhiy Krupienko, one of the developers of the project.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian developers are preparing a new weapon – the Styx system, which will allow drones to work in a team and perform tasks autonomously. One of the developers, Serhiy Krupienko, compared this project to the launch of a steam engine, emphasizing its revolutionary nature.

This is equivalent to starting a steam engine in a factory many years ago. Our main mission is to make robots do the fighting, not humans. They can communicate with each other, decide who’s attacking, who’s gathering information — and they’ll do it faster than any human.”, – emphasized Krupienko

Styx will allow you to create a “swarm” of up to seven UAVs with artificial intelligence, able to communicate with each other, decide who attacks and who collects information. The developers believe that this will be the future of warfare, just as tanks, radios and airplanes once were.

Bornyakov explained that an unmanned vehicle with a machine gun can be programmed to work on soldiers based on their uniform, but this is not allowed “from an ethical point of view and for security reasons.” At the same time, the deputy head of the Ministry of Statistics admitted that he could imagine drones being launched in a clearly defined “kill zone” and working on targets within its boundaries.

I guess it makes sense in wartime“, he added.
